ACQUAVIVA, OTTAVIO, junior. — Cardinal, born in Naples in 1608, died in Rome in 1674. Governor of Jesi (1638), Orvieto (1642), and Ancona (1643), he defended these two latter cities against the attacks of the Farnese during the War of Castro.
Summoned to Rome by Innocent XI, he was appointed secretary of the Congregation of Waters until he returned to administrative governance, first of the Patrimony and then of Castro. Raised to the purple in March 1654 with the title of S. Bartolomeo all'Isola, which he later changed to that of S. Cecilia, he was soon assigned to govern the legation of Bologna, where he remained until 1658. In that city, in 1655, he received Christina of Sweden while she was travelling to Rome.
