ACQUAVIVA, OTTAVIO, junior. - Cardinal, b. in Naples in 1608, d. in Rome in 1674. Governor of Jesi (1638), Orvieto (1642) and Ancona (1643), he defended the latter two cities against the attacks of the Farnese during the War of Castro.
Summoned to Rome by Innocent XI, he was appointed secretary of the Congregation of Waters until he returned to administrative governance, first of the Patrimony and then of Castro. Raised to the purple in March 1654 with the title of St. Bartholomew on the Island, which he later changed to that of St. Cecilia, he was soon appointed to head the legation of Bologna and remained there until 1658. In this city he received, in 1655, Christina of Sweden on her journey to Rome.
