ADEMOLLO, LUIGI AND CARLO. - LUIGI, painter, b. in Milan on 30 April 1764, d. in Florence on 11 February 1839. Having begun his artistic studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, in 1782 he went to Rome, where he adhered to the academic theories then dominant; he then settled his residence in Florence.
He left sacred and secular works in Florence (Cappella terrena and Galleria Palatina in the Pitti Palace, Stories of the Life of David at the Santissima Annunziata); in Lucca; in the Cathedral of Livorno and of Arezzo; in various private palaces in Siena; in the Collegiate Church of S. Maria a Monte, where, in addition to the Passion of Christ, the decoration of the ceiling with the Vision of St. John the Evangelist is attributed to him.
CARLO, his nephew, (Florence 1825-1911) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Bezzuoli (v.). He was a good portraitist and for his subjects drew inspiration from the most notable historical events of the Italian Risorgimento.
