AGAR - A. Punished by Sarah.
Benozzo Gozzoli (1468-84) - Pisa, Camposanto.
He seized the kingdom of Berengario II and had himself crowned king of Italy at Pavia (951). He would also have liked the imperial crown in Rome, but A. was obliged to refuse it to him because of Alberico’s opposition. In compensation, he continued to bestow favours liberally upon Ottone. He had already confirmed the privileges of the archbishop of Amburgo, to whom he subjected the Scandinavian countries (2 Jan. 948). In 954 he sent the pallium to St Bruno, archbishop of Colonia and brother of Ottone. To him, moreover, he granted full powers for the reorganization of the hierarchy in Sassonia (955). This was the last act issued by A. He was buried behind the apse of the Lateran basilica.
