AGRESTI, Livio, called il Ricciuto. — Mannerist painter from Forlì, whose birth year is unknown; d. 1580. He studied under Francesco Menzocchi, heir to the art of Parmigianino and the Dosso, and was in contact with Luca Longhi in Ravenna before coming to Rome, where he was influenced by the late works of Raphael. His subjects are exclusively religious: his first dated work is a Crucifixion for Amelia (1557). He later painted in Forlì, Ravenna, Terni, Narni, and Rome (Sala Regia of the Vatican Palace [1561], S. Caterina de’ Furnari, Oratorio del Gonfalone, etc.). His style does not stray far from the late followers of the Roman tradition.
