ALESSANDRO OF SAINT TERESA. - Flemish Carmelite (in the world Van den Berghe), b. in 1639 in Brussels, d. in Louvain in 1686. For many years, in the college of the Order at Louvain, he taught philosophy, theology and Sacred Scripture with much acclaim.

For the defense of the Catholic faith he published the works: Clypeus religionis (2 vols., Cologne 1679); Praeco Marianus... (ibid. 1681); Confutatio justificationis praxeus (Ypres 1683); Hydra profanarum novitatum, a description of all heresies, with their refutation (Cologne 1684); Tempestas Novaturiensis, against the errors of the Protestants (ibid. 1686), and several others in the Flemish language.
