ALFANI, Domenico and Orazio. - Painters. Domenico, b. in Perugia c. 1480, d. after 1553, collaborator and friend of Raphael, painted from the master’s design the *Padre Eterno* on the cimasa of Raphael’s *Deposition*, now in the Borghese Gallery in Rome, and a *Sacra Famiglia* in the Perugia Gallery. Raffaellesque influences are also evident in the *Madonna* of 1518 in the Perugia Gallery and in those of the cathedral of Città della Pieve (1521), while the action of Giulio Romano and Fra Bartolomeo is revealed in the large altarpiece in the Perugia Pinacoteca, dated 1524, representing the Virgin with the Child and Saints, which is his best-known work. A mediocre and cold painter, in his last work he ended by feebly repeating the worn-out formulas of the Michelangelesque school.
Orazio, son of Domenico, b. in Perugia c. 1510, d. in Rome in 1583. Collaborator of his father, he worked from 1539 to 1544 in Sicily. Among the works executed after his return to Perugia we may recall the *Legend of SS. Peter and Paul* and the *Resurrection* for the church of the Benedictines. The style of his paintings, of a quality even inferior to that of his father, is linked to the Florentine mannerists.
