BADIA, Tommaso. — Dominican, cardinal, born in Modena in 1483, died in 1547. Professor of theology in Ferrara, Venice, and Bologna, he served as Master of the Sacred Palace and advisor to Cardinal Contarini at the Diet of Regensburg (1541). Created cardinal on July 7, 1542, he played a major role in drafting the *Consilium delectorum cardinalium et aliorum praelatorum de emendanda Ecclesia*, commissioned by Paul III (Rome, 1538). He was Grand Inquisitor under Paul III. In the *Prolegomena* to the third part of the *Epistolae* of Cardinal Reginald Pole, published by Querini (Brescia, 1744–57), a letter of his to Cardinal Contarini regarding the Diet of Worms is included.
