CERBONI, TOMMASO. - Dominican theologian, b. in Lucca on 25 March 1723, d. in Rome on 12 March 1795. He entered religious life in Perugia in 1739 and completed his studies in Viterbo, Rome and Lucca. He first taught Greek in Florence, at the Studio of S. Maria Novella, then philosophy and moral theology in Todi; thereafter in Rome philosophy (1758-63) and theology (1763-85) at the College of Propaganda Fide. In 1770 he was appointed master in theology, in 1787 theologian of the Casa di Santa Rosa, and the following year (1788) procurator general of the Order.

An exemplary religious and tireless scholar, among his many academic occupations and his assiduous ministry he found the time to write: Theologiae moralis libri tres (2 vols., Rome 1767-68); De theologia revelata (2 vols., ibid. 1768); De iure et legum disciplinis (4 vols., ibid. 1776-78); Institutiones theologicae ad usum scholarum auctore et magistro divo Thoma Aquinate (6 vols., ibid. 1797, posthumous).
