CERBONI, TOMMASO. - Dominican theologian, b. at Lucca on 25 March 1723, d. at Rome on 12 March 1795. He entered religious life at Perugia in 1739 and completed his studies at Viterbo, Rome, and Lucca. He first taught Greek at Florence, at the Studio of S. Maria Novella, then philosophy and moral theology at Todi; subsequently at Rome he taught philosophy (1758–63) and theology (1763–85) at the Collegio de Propaganda Fide. In 1770 he was appointed master of theology, in 1787 Casanatense theologian, and the following year (1788) procurator general of the Order.
An exemplary religious and indefatigable scholar, amid his many academic duties and his assiduous ministry he found time to write: Theologiae moralis libri tres (2 vols., Rome 1767–68); De theologia revelata (2 vols., ibid. 1768); De iure et legum disciplinus (4 vols., ibid. 1776–78); Institutiones theologicae ad usum scholarum auctore et magistro divo Thoma Aquinate (6 vols., ibid. 1797, posthumous).
