CERBONI, Tommaso. - Dominican theologian, born in Lucca on 25 March 1723, died in Rome on 12 March 1795. He entered religious life in Perugia in 1739 and completed his studies in Viterbo, Rome, and Lucca. He first taught Greek in Florence at the Studium of Santa Maria Novella, then philosophy and moral theology in Todi; subsequently in Rome he taught philosophy (1758-63) and theology (1763-85) at the Collegio de Propaganda Fide. In 1770 he was appointed Master in Theology, in 1787 Casanatese theologian, and the following year (1788) Procurator General of the Order.
An exemplary religious and indefatigable scholar, amid his many academic duties and assiduous ministry, he found time to write: *Theologiae moralis libri tres* (2 vols., Rome 1767-68); *De theologia revelata* (2 vols., ibid. 1768); *De iure et legum disciplina* (4 vols., ibid. 1776-78); *Institutiones theologicae ad usum scholarum auctore et magistro divo Thoma Aquinate* (6 vols., ibid. 1797, posthumous).
