Coconnier, Thomas

COCONNIER, THOMAS. - Dominican philosopher and theologian, b. at Grazay near Mayenne in France, 26 Aug. 1846, d. at Toulouse 8 March 1908. He was a professor at the major seminary of Laval; a disciple in Rome of the future Card. Zigliara. Having entered the Order of St. Dominic, in 1878 he was appointed professor of philosophy at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse, recently founded, and in 1890 professor of theology at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. In 1893 he founded, and directed until his death, the Revue Thomiste. To a solid and profound philosophical and theological thought he knew how to join a perfect literary form.
