COCONNIER, Thomas. - Dominican philosopher and theologian, born at Grazay near Mayenne in France on 26 August 1846, died at Toulouse on 8 March 1908. He was professor at the major seminary of Laval; a pupil in Rome of the future Cardinal Zigliara. Having entered the Order of St Dominic in 1878, he was appointed professor of philosophy at the recently founded Catholic Institute of Toulouse, and in 1890 professor of theology at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. In 1893 he founded and edited until his death the Revue Thoaiste. To a solid and profound philosophical and theological thought he united a perfect literary style.
