MONROVIA, APOSTOLIC VICARIATE OF

It is the name recently assumed by Liberia (v.), after the division (2 Feb. 1950) of its territory to erect the Apostolic Prefecture of Cape Palmas.

The boundary is marked by the river Negben or Costos. The most reliable approximate data for the present, thus reduced, Apostolic Vicariate are as follows: area 53,240 sq. km.; inhabitants 1,750,000, Catholics 3,826, of whom 92 foreign; indigenous priests 1, foreign priests 11; major and minor seminaries 2 each; teachers 43; schools 13, with 2,711 pupils.
