Daughters of the Cross, Called Sisters of Saint Andrew

DAUGHTERS OF THE CROSS, called SISTERS OF SANT'ANDREA. — Institute founded at Maillé, in the diocese of Poitiers, in 1807 by St. Andrea Uberto Fournet and St. Giovanna E. Bichier des Ages for various works of apostolate, for the education of youth, and for the care of the sick. First approved by the French bishops, and then by the Holy See in 1867, the institute, spread throughout Europe, America, and China, numbers more than 2,000 sisters in 262 houses divided into 6 religious provinces.
