LESÊTRE, HENRI. - Biblicist, b. at Bourges on 11 February 1848, d. at Paris on 26 March 1914. He studied at the Seminary of St-Sulpice, then exercised the priestly ministry for a long time, without neglecting a busy activity as a writer, collaborating on the DB and on the edition of the Bible of Lethielleux or of Drach, for which he composed the commentaries on Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiasticus, Wisdom and the Psalms.
Among his other works of an exegetical-apologetic character are remembered: Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ dans son st Evangile (Paris 1892); La Ste Eglise au siècle des Apôtres (ibid. 1898); La clef des Evangiles (ibid. 1902); Le Temple de Jérusalem (ibid. 1914). To L. are also owed various articles, mainly in Revue du clergé français and in Revue pratique d'apologétique.
