LESÈTRE, HENRI. — Biblical scholar, born in Bourges on 11 February 1848, died in Paris on 26 March 1914. He studied at the Seminary of St-Sulpice, then exercised the priestly ministry for a long time, without neglecting an industrious activity as a writer, collaborating on the DB and on the edition of the Bible by Lethielleux or Drach, for which he composed the commentaries on Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiasticus, Wisdom, and the Psalms.
Among his other works of an exegetical-apologetic character are: Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ dans son st Evangile (Paris 1892); La Ste Eglise au siècle des Apôtres (there 1898); La clef des Evangiles (there 1902); Le Temple de Jérusalem (there 1914). L. also wrote various articles, principally in Revue du clergé français and Revue pratique d'apologétique.
