The date of Bishop Gregory, remembered as a martyr by St. Gregory of Agrigento (PG 98, 648), is uncertain. The best-known among its bishops is Pasasinus, who in a letter of 417 to Pope Leo I speaks of a “perparva ecclesia” in his diocese (Mansi, V, 1226); he suffered during the Vandal incursion of 439 and was consoled by a letter from the said Pontiff (Jaffé-Wattenbach, 401), who sent him as his representative to the Council of Chalcedon (ibid., 468–469, 476).
Bishops Theodore (ibid., 1254, 1340) and Decius (ibid., 1392, 1523, 1725, 1760) belong to the late 6th century.
A monastery was erected in L. in honor of SS. Peter, Lawrence, Hermes, Pancras, Sebastian, and Agnes.
