MATHANIA. - Name of various Israelites mentioned in the Bible (Heb.: Mattañāhu and Mattañāh; contracted Matnaj, in Ezra 10:33, 37; Neh. 12:19; "gift of Yahweh").

1. King of Judah: v. ZEDEKIAH. - 2-7. Six Jews who sent away the foreign women they had married (Ezra 10:26 ff., 30, 33, 36 ff.). - 8. Levitical family of the stock of Asaph (I Chron. 9:15; II Chron. 20:14; 29:13; Neh. 11:17, 22; 12:8, 35; 13:13). - 9. Levite of the sons of Haman (I Chron. 25:4, 16). - 10. Levite gatekeeper (Neh. 12:25). - 11. Head of a priestly family of the class of Joiarib (Neh. 12:19).
