PESELLINO, FRANCESCO DI STEFANO known as il Pesellino. — Painter, born in Florence ca. 1422, died there in 1457. The lack of secure works does not permit an assessment of how much P. owed to the teaching and influence of Giuliano d’Arrigo (Pesello: whence his nickname), who introduced him to the art of painting. The artist is found in the workshop of Giuliano Pesello, with no interruptions, from 1427 to 1433.
