PIETRO di CASA (de Caesis, de Casis, DES-MAISONS). - Patriarch of Jerusalem, born at Limoges in the second half of the 13th century, died at Entrechaux in France on 3 Aug. 1348.
A Carmelite friar, he obtained a degree in theology at Paris. Provincial of Aquitaine (1324), then prior general (1330), he took part in the solemn assembly of Parisian prelates and doctors held at Vincennes, where it was unanimously maintained, against the personal opinion of Giovanni XXII, that souls completely purified are immediately admitted to the beatific vision, before the Last Judgment. On 17 Dec. 1341 he received from Benedetto XII the bishopric of Vaison. On 7 Oct. 1342 Clemente VI appointed him patriarch of Jerusalem, with the perpetual administration of the diocese of Vaison. Having died in the odor of sanctity, he was honored by many writers of the Order with the title of blessed; but his cult has not hitherto been officially recognized. The General Chapter of 1908 decided to promote the cause before the Sacred Congregation of Rites.
Trisse reports that P. wrote a commentary on the four books of the Sentences, as well as a collection of sermons or Collationes. J. Bale further attributes to him a commentary in Politicum Aristotelis.
