To him is attributed the *Iter Persicum* of Brother Ascelino and his companions, preserved in Vincent of Beauvais, *Speculum historiale* (Nuremberg 1471), bk. XXXIII, chaps. 26–29, 32, 34, 40–52. On the occasion of the Council of Lyons, Innocent IV dispatched four Dominicans to the Tartars to urge them to cease their massacres and receive the truth of the faith: Ascelino, S., Alberic, and Alexander. Traveling the southern route via Acre, Armenia, and Georgia, after stopping in the spring of 1247 at the Dominican house in Tiflis, they arrived in July in Persia, where they met the general Baichu, but without obtaining any positive result. On their return journey the Dominicans were accompanied by Tartars who were received by the Pope. Soranzo casts doubt on the accounts of S., accepted by Altaner according to the Dominican tradition.
