THUBURBO MINUS. - An ancient diocese in proconsular Africa, today Tebourba in Tunisia; it is now a titular see.
In 411 its bishop was Vittore; but it may be that the names of its bishops are confused with those of Thuburbo maius; likewise, it cannot be determined with certainty whether the group of martyrs Massima, Donatilla, and Seconda, commemorated in the Calendar of Carthage on 30 July, belonged to Thuburbo maius or to T. m.: « III Kal. aug. sanctarum Thuburbinarum et Septimiae »; whereas the Hieronymian Martyrology on the same date indicates: « In Africa Lucernariae Maximae Secundae Donatillae ». The three martyrs also occur in the « Passio Crispinae » of Tebessa (BHL, 1989). At Tichilla, present-day Testour, situated in the same valley of the Bagrada as T. m., an inscription was found in the great mosque: « Sanctae tres Maximilla et Donatilla, Secunda bona puella Stefanus » (P. Monceaux, Enquête sur l'épigr. chrét. d'Afrique, Paris 1907, p. 38, no. 245); the same martyrs are also named in the « memoria » erected by Faustino, bishop of Tebessa, and found in 1906 at Rouis (ibid., pp. 176-79, no. 337). In honour of the martyrs St. Augustine delivered a sermon (Sermo habitus in natale martyrum Thuburbitanorum, in Misc. Agostin., I, Rome 1930, pp. 201-209).
