VINCENZO DA CAPUA. – A priest of the Roman Church, whom Pope St. Silvester sent in 325 as legate to the First Council of Nicaea, together with the priest Vito and the bishop Osio.
He was bishop of Capua when Pope Julius I sent him to Milan to Emperor Constantius, from whom he obtained the convocation of the Council of Sardica (343), in which he took part. He was also Pope Liberius’s legate to the Synod of Arles in 353, where he had the weakness to subscribe to the condemnation of St. Athanasius, a condemnation deplored by Liberius in a letter to St. Eusebius of Vercelli. Pope Damasus attests that he never renounced
the Catholic faith; indeed, he fought the Arians at the Council of Rimini (359). After 360, nothing more is known of him.
