VITTORE of Antioch. — There exists in many Greek manuscripts a commentary on the Gospel of Mark which is attributed to a certain V. of A., and which was used in two recensions.
This commentary is a catena, largely compiled from extracts from St. John Chrysostom (J. Reuss, op. cit., in bibliography, p. 138); in addition, texts from Origen, Cyril of Alexandria, Titus of Bostra and others were copied (ibid., p. 139). The compilation, based on commentaries on Matthew and Luke, was probably produced in the 6th century (ibid., p. 141) by a priest V. of Antioch, who is unknown to us and cannot be confidently identified with a V. mentioned in other catenae. The compilation was very widespread.
