VICTOR OF ANTIOCH. - There exists in many Greek manuscripts a commentary on the Gospel of Mark that is attributed to a certain V. of A., and which circulated in two recensions.

This commentary is an exegetical catena, for the most part based on extracts from St. John Chrysostom (J. Reuss, op. cit., in bibl., p. 138); moreover, texts of Origen, Cyril of Alexandria, Titus of Bostra and others were copied (ibid., p. 139). The compilation, based on commentaries on Matthew and Luke, was probably carried out in the 6th century (ibid., p. 141) by a priest V. of Antioch, who is for us an unknown person, and it cannot be asserted with certainty that this is identical with a V. mentioned in other catenae. The compilation was very widespread.
