VICTOR OF CAPUA. - Bishop from 541-54 (see his tombstone in CIL, X, 4503).
He wrote, against Victor of Aquitaine, De cyclo paschali, of which only the beginning is preserved in Bede the Venerable, Rat. temp., 51 (C. W. Jones, Bedae opera de temporibus, Cambridge 1943, p. 272 ff.). He perhaps made the translation of a commentary with scholia of Greek Fathers (Polycarp, Origen, Basil, Didymus, Severian; ed. I. B. Pitra, Spicilegium Solesmense, I, Paris 1852, p. 296). Attributed to him are: Reticulus seu de arca Noe (ibid., p. 287), Capitula de resurrectione Domini, not preserved, and a Glossa on the Epistle to the Romans (see G. Morin, in Rev. bénéd., 27 [1940], p. 114 ff.). His name is especially linked to the Codex Fuldensis, which St. Boniface brought to Germany. It is a Latin harmony of the Gospels, based on that of Tatian (written ca. 545) and on the other books of the N. T. Also attributed to V. is the Capitulary (lectionary) of the Codex Fuldensis (cf. T. Klauser, Das römische Capitulare Evangeliorum, I. Münster in W. 1935, p. xxxi.
