In conferendis praecipuis
Bull on the office of the Treasurer General of the Apostolic Camera
1 of spoils pertaining in any way to the Reverend Apostolic Chamber of Canterbury. Sixtus, bishop, servant of the servants of God, to our beloved son Master Bartholomaeus Caesius, clerk of Rome, doctor of both laws, general treasurer of the Apostolic Chamber, and our chaplain and familiar, greeting and apostolic blessing.
2 The office of treasurer is clearly most ancient, from the reading of the bull of Eugene IV, Inter edera, vol. v, p. 32. And Callistus III pronounced the treasurer a true familiar of the Pope in const. 1, Quae laudabili, ibid., p. 116. And concerning the said office various Pontiffs have issued constitutions, which I have deliberately omitted (apart from those indicated here and in the apostils) as less necessary, especially since this bull contains everything fully. But concerning the criminal chanceries of the Ecclesiastical State, see the authority of the treasurer and the jurisdiction in the chancellors, in const. xv of Paul IV, Romanus, vol. vi, p. 518, and const. xcvi of Pius IV, Superna, vol. vii, p. 285. By the term spoils are understood goods of ecclesiastical persons disposed of without licence of the Apostolic See according to const. xxxviii of Paul III, Roman Pontiff, vol. vi, p. 317, and const. lx, Romanus Pontifex, ibid., p. 382, and of Pius IV const. ix, Grave nobis, vol. vii, p. 27, and goods acquired through illicit dealing, according to const. xxiii, Decens esse, ibid., p. 78, as well as goods of regulars dying outside the cloister, according to const. lxiv of Gregory XIII, Officii nostri, vol. viii, p. 162, and of clerics dying outside residence, according to const. cviii of Pius IV, In suprema, vol. vii, p. 332, fruits of benefices in Italy reserved or assigned to the Apostolic See, while vacant, according to const. xli, Cupientes malittiis, ibid., p. 127; goods of those dying outside residence and unexacted fruits of benefices, according to const. vii of Julius III, Cum sicut, vol. vi, p. 417. Or before the expedition of apostolic letters or otherwise badly received, as here.
3 of the principal offices of the Roman Curia and Apostolic Chamber, it is our chief concern that, in accordance with the apostolic service committed to us from above, we provide opportunely for the healthful direction, security and preservation of the apostolic treasury, and that its administration be entrusted to such persons whose work, zeal, industry and faithfulness will providently and diligently preserve and increase the goods, property and rights of the said Chamber.
4 § 1. Since therefore the office of general treasurer of the same Chamber, which our beloved son Guido, deacon cardinal of Saints Cosmas and Damian, called Pepolus, held at the time of his assumption by us to the honour of the cardinalate, has become vacant and is now vacant because we have decreed that the said office be vacated by such assumption.
5 § 2. We, directing the gaze of our consideration to your noble birth and outstanding learning, as well as your zeal for faith and justice, integrity and singular probity, and the other virtues by which you, who are an apostolic notary of the number of participants, and a clerk of the aforesaid Chamber, and referendary in both our signatures, and our domestic prelate, and who derive your origin from the noble house of the Caesii, from which very many cardinals, bishops, prelates and other distinguished persons of the holy Roman Church have hitherto come forth and continue to come forth, are known to shine forth, and firmly hoping that those things which we shall deem fit to commit to you, you will execute with the greatest prudence and exact diligence; and that, with the right hand of the Lord assisting you propitiously, you will be able to exercise the said office laudably, we deem it worthy, 1
6 The office of treasurer is vacant.

Rather, we deem it a duty that we should honor your person, so devoted to us and the Apostolic See, with fitting honors and favors. You therefore, from whatever excommunication, suspension and interdict and other ecclesiastical sentences, censures and penalties, whether by law or by man, imposed for any occasion or cause, if you are bound by them in any way whatsoever, for the purpose of obtaining the present effect alone, we absolve by this present document and declare absolved, of our own motion, not at the instance of your petition or that of another on your behalf presented to us concerning this, but from mere liberality and from our certain knowledge, and from the fullness of apostolic power, the said office, through the aforesaid assumption or in any other manner whatsoever, which we wish to be held as expressly stated, or falling vacant from the person of any other whomsoever, together with the office of collector also of the general spoils, fruits and revenues of all benefices whatsoever of the Church, as well as of churches and monasteries throughout all Italy, and of goods in the City and the whole Ecclesiastical State falling vacant, and other things annexed to it, as well as all and singular the honors, privileges thereof, and also from the dismemberment and separation (of five thousand scudi annually of money from the fruits of the said office of treasurer by us recently, for certain causes moving our mind, applied to the Treasury of the Treasurer erected by us, as is more fully contained in our letters made thereupon, remaining), the customary rights, regalia and emoluments, and the faculties, jurisdictions, exemptions, immunities, preeminences, precedences, prerogatives, favors, indults and graces, both to the same Guido and to our beloved son Benedict, deacon of St. Mary in Cosmedin, called Justinian, cardinals, while constituted in minor orders, held this office of treasurer, and to all others before them, general treasurers and collectors, by whomsoever our Roman Pontiff predecessors and we and the aforesaid See, in general or in particular and otherwise in any manner whatsoever, granted, confirmed, extended and renewed, and otherwise pertaining to the offices of general treasurer and collector of this kind, by right, foundation, privilege, use, custom or any other manner and title whatsoever, and all other things whatsoever by which the aforesaid cardinals Benedict and Guido, while holding this office of treasurer, and any others whatsoever their predecessors in these offices, both in ancient and modern times, used, possessed and enjoyed, and were able to use, possess and enjoy, or even ought to have, whether by apostolic letters or patents, or by writings or camera books, or any other public or private documents, making faith however; all which things and singular, their tenors we wish to be held as expressed in the present document and inserted word for word, by this present document, by apostolic authority we confirm, approve and renew, and to you anew we grant, so that you may freely and lawfully use, possess and enjoy all and singular of them, in all things and through all things, and equally and without any difference whatsoever, just as if by the present document they had been specially and expressly granted, by the same authority we grant and assign to you. Or if to any persons commonly or severally from the same See it has been indulged that they cannot be interdicted, suspended or excommunicated through apostolic letters not making full and express mention, and word for word, of this indult.
82 § 52. We will moreover that to transcripts of these presents, even printed ones, and subscribed by the hand of a public notary and sealed with your seal, the same faith shall be given everywhere in judicial proceedings and outside, as would be given to these presents themselves, if they were exhibited or shown. To no one therefore, etc.

A nessuno dunque, ecc.
