ACCORAMBONI, GIUSEPPE. - Cardinal, born at Preci in 1672, died at Frascati in 1747. A pupil of the celebrated Luca Palma the Younger, he immersed himself in the juridical sciences, acquiring great renown in the Roman Curia. First an auditor of the Rota, then a curial advocate and auditor of Cardinal Michelangelo Conti, when the latter was elected pope (Innocent XIII), he was made subdatary and canon of St. Peter's and then titular archbishop of Philippi. Benedict XIII appointed him his auditor and conferred on him the abbey of S. Ilaria in Galbiate, creating him on 20 September 1728 cardinal of the title of S. Maria in Traspontina, with the administration of the bishopric of Imola.
In eleven years of governance, he enriched the cathedral, restored the seminary, visited the whole diocese and held the Synod of 1738. Having renounced the diocese the following year, he retired to Rome, displaying a wonderful activity in the Roman congregations, which counted him a precious member. In 1743, he passed to the suburbicarian diocese of Frascati, which he governed until his death, which occurred at the age of 75. His tomb is preserved in Rome, in the church of S. Ignazio (chapel of S. Luigi).
