ALEOTTI, ANTONIO. - Painter of the school of Ferrara, born in Argenta, he was active between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th. The only document concerning him (1498) refers to disputes with his wife. His works certainly include the Dead Christ of 1498 (Galleria di Ferrara) and a panel with the Madonna enthroned between Sts Michael and Anthony Abbot of 1510 (Pinacoteca).

Some works attributed to him include a polyptych with the Madonna enthroned between Sts Peter, James, John the Baptist and Paul (dated 1494) and, according to more recent criticism (Federico Zeri), the panels with Sts Bartholomew and Lawrence (Musée de Nancy), Sts John the Evangelist and Nicholas of Bari (Musée de Toulouse). Berenson assigns nine works to the Master of the Gardner Annunciation, which are historically datable to the period of the Dead Christ.
