ALEOTTI, ANTONIO. - Painter of the school of Ferrara, born in Argenta, he was active between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th. The only document concerning him (1498) refers to disputes with his wife. Attributed to him are a polyptych with the Madonna enthroned between Sts Peter, James, John the Baptist and Paul (dated 1494) and, according to more recent criticism (Federico Zeri), the panels with Sts Bartholomew and Lawrence (Musée de Nancy), Sts John the Evangelist and Nicholas of Bari (Musée de Toulouse), which Berenson instead assigned to the Master of the Gardner Annunciation and which are stylistically datable to the period of the Dead Christ.
