DE NATALIBUS, PIETRO. — Hagiographer, born in Venice, where he served as parish priest of the SS. Apostoli until 1370, when he was appointed bishop of Esquilio (Iesolo, also called Cavazuccherina). The last known record of him dates to 1400.
He wrote: *Catalogus Sanctorum et eorum gestorum ex diversis et multis voluminebus collectis*, begun in 1369 and completed in 1372, published in Vicenza in 1493 and about ten times in the first half of the 16th century. Some editions, such as that of Lyon 1542 (in-fol.), include additions of saints canonized after the author’s death (e.g., St. Bernardino da Siena, St. Bonaventure, etc.). The work was also translated into French: *Le grand catalogue des saints et saintes* (Paris 1523–24). Divided into 12 books, it contains over 1,500 entries arranged according to the ecclesiastical calendar. In the prologue, the author lists his sources, including Vincent of Beauvais, James of Voragine, and Peter Calò. As a critic, he remains firmly rooted in the Middle Ages and does not surpass James of Voragine in value.
