DELGADILLO, CRISTÓBAL. - Franciscan theologian, b. in Madrid, d. there, 27 Oct. 1671. He studied at the Franciscan college of Alcalá; having subsequently gone to Italy, he was custodian of the general government and of the province of Rome; he then returned to Spain, becoming guardian of the convent of Madrid and general definitior of the province of Castile. Synodal examiner at Toledo, under Philip IV he was appointed court preacher. Offered the bishopric of Tuy, he refused II. Besides his learning, he was also esteemed for his piety and austerity of life.
His work is entirely devoted to elucidating the thought of Duns Scoto. His works include: Secundum principium complutense seu de Angelis (Alcalá 1652); Tractatus duo, alterum de Incarnatione, alterum de adoratione, in quibus legitima doctoris subtilis meus aperitur et propugnatur (ivi 1653); De Sacramentis in genere et aliquibus in specie (ivi 1654); De Poenitentia tractatus bipartitus, sc. quatenus virtus est et quatenus Sacramentum (s.l. 1658); De venerabili Eucharistiae sacramento (Alcalá 1660); De observantia silentii sanctimonialium clarissarum et aliis praeceptis (ivi 1662); De assidua communione (Madrid 1665).
