EMANUELE di Gesù Maria. — Carmelite Discalced theologian and preacher, born Michele d’Ambrogio, at Saponara-Villafranca (Messina) on 1 November 1621, died at Naples on 17 September 1692.
An outstanding orator, he preached to great acclaim in the principal cities of Italy and at the court of Emperor Leopold I in Vienna. Cardinal Antonio Pignatelli called him “tuba Spiritus Sancti.” He also held the highest offices in his Order: provincial of Naples and Sicily, three times definitor general, and general of the Order (1677–80).
