IVO HÉLORI, Saint. - B. at Kermartin, near Tréguier in Brittany, in 1253, d. at Lahonec, diocese of Tréguier, on 19 May 1303. In his youth he studied in Paris and at Orléans, especially law.
He practiced jurisprudence in the ecclesiastical courts, first at Rennes, whose bishop conferred on him the sacred orders up to the diaconate, then at Tréguier, where he was raised to the priesthood, earning the title of advocate of the poor. Appointed in 1285 parish priest of Trédrez, in 1288 he renounced his curial offices and devoted himself to the care of souls, passing in 1296 from Trédrez to Lahonec. He was a model parish priest, above all for his charity toward the poor, his zeal in preaching, and the pastoral care of his faithful. He educated orphans in a particular way. He was also endowed with the gift of miracles. His membership in the FranciscanThird Order is uncertain. His body rests in the cathedral of Tréguier. He was canonized by Clement VI on 26 June 1347. Feast on 19 May.
