IVO HÉLORI, saint. - Born at Kermartin, near Tréguier in Brittany, in 1253; died at Lahonec, diocese of Tréguier, on 19 May 1303. In his youth he studied at Paris and Orléans, especially law.
He practised law in the ecclesiastical courts, first at Rennes, whose bishop conferred upon him Holy Orders up to the diaconate, then at Tréguier, where he was raised to the priesthood, earning the title of advocate of the poor. Appointed parish priest of Trédrez in 1285, in 1288 he relinquished the offices of the curia and devoted himself to the care of souls, moving in 1296 from Trédrez to Lahonec. He was a model parish priest, especially for his charity toward the poor, his zeal in preaching, and his pastoral care of the faithful. He gave particular instruction to orphans. He was also endowed with the gift of miracles. His membership in the Franciscan Third Order is uncertain. His body rests in the cathedral of Tréguier. He was canonized by Clement VI on 26 June 1347.
