LEPORIO. – Monk and priest, born at Treviri; he had disseminated in Gaul the (Nestorian) theory that Jesus « pro merito laboris passionisque » (Giov. Cassiano, De Incarn., I, 2, 4-5) had acquired divinity.
Also accused of Pelagianism, he was expelled from Gaul, and, having gone to Africa, was convinced of his error under the influence of s. Agostino. He publicly retracted his heresies around 426, at a Synod of bishops in Carthage. In the « Libellus emendationis », his retraction was communicated to the bishops in Gaul, accompanied by a letter from s. Agostino.
