LOPEZ Y VICUÑA, VINCENZA MARIA, Blessed. – Born in Cascante (Navarre) on 22 March 1847, died in Madrid on 26 December 1890, founder of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate for Domestic Service. From her youth she dedicated herself to good works and apostolic activity, taking as her model of heroic charity an aunt with whom she lived in Madrid from 1854 to 1873.
Together with the Countess of Morbalán, concerned about the dangers faced by domestic servants, she founded a house to welcome them when dismissed from a family and seeking work. The Blessed devoted herself entirely to this work and on 11 June 1876, with the approval of the auxiliary bishop of Toledo, Msgr. Saracha y Hervás, she assumed the religious habit of the Institute she had founded. In the same year she saw the foundation in Saragossa arise; in 1878 that in Seville; and in 1887 that in Barcelona. Having obtained from Leo XIII the decretum laudis on 18 April 1888 and made her perpetual vows on 31 July 1890, she died a holy death a few months later. Ten years earlier she had made the perpetual vow to seek perfection in all things undertaken. She was beatified by Pius XII on 13 February 1950.
