LÓPEZ Y VICUÑA, Vincenza Maria, Blessed. - Born at Cascante (Navarre) on 22 March 1847, died at Madrid on 26 Dec. 1890, foundress of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate for domestic service. Devoted from her youth to good works and to the apostolate, she had as a model of heroic charity an aunt, with whom she lived in Madrid from 1854 to 1873.
With the countess of Morbalán, thinking of the dangers to which servant women were exposed, she founded for them a house in which to welcome them, when they were dismissed from some family and in search of work. The Blessed dedicated herself entirely to this work and on June 11, 1876, with the approval of the auxiliary bishop of Toledo, Msgr. Sancha y Hervás, she took the religious habit of the Institute she had founded. In the same year she saw the foundation of Saragossa arise, in 1878 that of Seville and in 1887 that of Bar-

Having obtained, on 18 Apr. 1888, from Leo XIII the decretum laudis and having made her perpetual vows on 31 July 1890, she died a holy death a few months later. About ten years earlier she had made the perpetual vow of always seeking perfection in everything undertaken. She was beatified by Pius XII on 13 Feb. 1950.
