NICASIO, saint - The martyrdom of St. N. Sculpture (13th century) on the northern facade of the transept of the Cathedral - Reims.

NICASIUS, Saint. - Tenth in the series of the bishops of Reims, he lived between the end of the 4th century and the beginning of the 5th.

In his city he founded the Basilica dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. N. was a martyr in the invasion of the Vandals on 14 Dec. 407 (less probably others place the martyrdom in the invasion of the Huns in 451), together with his sister Eutropia, the deacon Florentius and Jucundus. They were buried in the church (or cemetery) of St. Agricola, according to the Acta. He is one of the cephalophoric martyrs (v. MARTYR and MARTYRDOM). Feast on 14 Dec.
