RAFFAELLINO del GARBO. — Florentine painter, born around 1470, active until about 1525.

He has been distinguished into as many artists of varying formation (all active in Florence at the same time and with the same given name) as there are signatures (de' Carli, de' Capponi, da Firenze) found in works attributed to him by Vasari, as well as by the nickname (del G.) by which he was commonly known. The diversity of styles is explained by the painter himself, who came to Rome as an apprentice to Filippino Lippi to fresco the Carafa Chapel at the Minerva, where he would have painted the damaged *Sibyls* on the vault, and later worked under Pier Matteo d'Amelia, a pupil of Pinturicchio, from whom he would have learned Umbrian styles. Among his signed and documented works are: *Madonna and Saints*, Uffizi, 1500; *Mass of St. Gregory*, formerly Benson, 1501; *Madonna in Glory*, S. Maria degli Angeli near Siena, 1502; *Madonna and Saints*, Florence, S. Spirito, 1505; *St. John Gualbert*, Valombrosa, Pieve, 1507–1509.
