ROSSETTI, CARLO. — Cardinal, born in Ferrara in 1614, died in Faenza on 23 November 1681.

Apostolic nuncio in England in 1639, he had to leave the country because of the hostility of the Puritans, who attempted to assassinate him. He was then extraordinary nuncio in Cologne (1642) and legate of Urban VIII to the Congress of the Peace of Münster (1643). Bishop of Faenza from 1643 to 1676, where he convened nine synods, he was created cardinal by Urban VIII in 1643; he was also bishop of Frascati (1676) and then of Porto and S. Rufina (1680).
