CACCIATORI, BENEDETTO. — Sculptor, born in Carrara in 1794, died there on 25 September 1871.
A pupil of Lorenzo Bartolini, in Milan he left, among other works, the statues of St. Satyrus, St. Ambrose, St. Romanus, St. Maximilian, and St. Mary Magdalene in the Cathedral; the monument to Count G. Borromeo in the Ambrosian Library (1840); a Madonna in S. Celso; the tomb of Marcello Saporiti in the church of the Sforzesca (1854); as well as several statues for the arch of Porta Venezia and the Arch of Peace. He also worked on the Chapel of the Holy Shroud in Turin Cathedral and taught at the Brera Academy. His style, proceeding BARTOLI, DANIELLO (v.), reflects the neoclassical examples of the Milanese milieu in which C. completed his training.
