BENEDETTO CACCIATORI. — Sculptor, born in Carrara in 1794, died there on 25 September 1871.
A pupil of Lorenzo Bartolini, in Milan he left, among other works, the statues of St. Satyrus, St. Ambrose, St. Romanus, St. Maximilian, and St. Mary Magdalene in the Cathedral, the monument to Count G. Borromeo in the Ambrosian Library (1840), a Madonna in S. Celso, the tomb of Marcello Saporiti in the church of the Sforzesca (1854), as well as some statues for the Arch of Porta Venezia and for the Arch of Peace. He also worked on the Chapel of the Holy Shroud in the Turin Cathedral and was a teacher at the Brera Academy. His style, drawing on some characteristic expressions of Bartolini (q.v.), reflects the neoclassical examples of the Milanese milieu in which C. completed his training.
