ERIGERO OF LOBBES. — Benedictine abbot and writer, born in the first half of the 10th century, died at Lobbes (Liège) in 1007. He entered the abbey of Lobbes in 955 and soon became its scholasticus. Through his learning and administrative skill, he made the monastic school famous. A friend of the powerful Notker of Liège, he was his most esteemed advisor. Elected abbot in 990, he fully met the monks' expectations.
His writings are chiefly historical: *Gesta episcoporum Tungrensium, Traiectensium, Leodiensium* (NCH, Script., VII, 162-89; PL 139, 1001-1066), a work of sacred criticism but with good literary taste, continued until 1032 by Anselm of Liège; *Vita s. Ursmar*, of which only a fragment remains (PL 139, 1125-28); *Vitae* of Landolt, s. Adelini, s. Remacii (PL 139, 1111-68).
