GARIN, ANDRÉ-MARIE. – Missionary, born at Côte-St-André, in the diocese of Grenoble, on 7 May 1822, died at Lowell (United States) on 16 February 1805. In 1842 he joined the Oblates of Mary Immaculate; in 1844 he went to Canada, and in 1845 he became a priest. Together with Fr. Flaviano Durocher (1800–76) and Fr. Giovanni Laverlochère (1812–84), for 12 years he worked among the Indians of the Gulf of St Lawrence, Hudson Bay, and the St-Maurice River.
With Fr. Laverlochère he published a catechism, a manual of prayers and hymns, and sacred discourses in the Maslegon language. In 1857 he went among the French Canadians in the United States.
