GIUNTA (GIUNTI), FAMILY. - A family of publishers, printers, and booksellers who carried out intense activity from the late 15th century to the entire 16th century, particularly in the three centers of Florence, Venice, and Lyon.
The Florentine branch was founded by FILIPPO G. (1450-1517): the first book bearing his name is a Greek edition of the epitome of the Proverbs of Zenobius and bears the date 1497; many other Latin, Greek, and vernacular works followed, including the latter, works by Dante (1506),
printed by Aldo Manuzio, with Luca Antonio G. as the commissioner. Archival research and the conclusions of the most recent criticism have now dispelled this legend, absolving the G. from the slanderous accusation.
