MANISM

From the Latin *manes* “the good ones,” an euphemistic epithet applied to the dead, manism is the theory that explains the origins of religions from the cult of the ancestors.

Already Euhemerus had maintained that the gods were originally illustrious men, kings, sages, priests,

64 parishes served by 167 diocesan priests and 60 regulars; it has a seminary, 18 male and 84 female religious communities (Ann. Pont., 1951, p. 263).

The city of M. is situated at 2,130 m. on the Central Cordillera; it was founded by the Antiquenni; it suffered serious damage in the earthquake of 1925. It is an agricultural and mining center. The diocese was created by Pope Leo XIII on 11 April 1900; it is a suffragan of Medellín.
