MORENO Y DÍAZ, EZEQUIEL. - Augustinian and missionary, b. at Alfaro (Old Castile) on 9 April 1848, d. at Monteagudo (Spain) on 19 Aug. 1906.
A missionary in the Philippines from 1870; in the period 1885-88 he was superior of the college of Monteagudo. Having set out as provincial for Colombia, he was elected there vicar apostolic of the mission of Casanare (1893), which he had founded, and in 1895 bishop of Pasto. Zealous and particularly devoted to the Sacred Heart, he exercised a great influence in the defense of religion and in the pacification of minds. In 1925 his cause for beatification was introduced.

Italian trans. Rome 1905); Instrucciones al clero sobre la conducta con los liberales (Pasto 1902, 1903, Barcelona 1903); Cartas pastorales circulares y otros escritos (Madrid 1908); Cartas (ibid. 1914).
