MORENO Y DIAZ, EZEQUIEL. - Augustinian and missionary, b. at Alfaro (Old Castile) on 9 Apr. 1848, d. at Monteagudo (Spain) on 19 Aug. 1906.

A missionary in the Philippines from 1870; during the period 1885–88 he was superior of the college of Monteagudo. Having left as provincial for Colombia, he was elected there apostolic vicar of the mission of Casanare (1893), which he founded, and in 1895 bishop of Pasto. Zealous and particularly devoted to the Sacred Heart, he exercised great influence in the defense of religion and in the pacification of minds. In 1925 his cause of beatification was introduced.
