SERRA, LUIGI. - Painter, b. in Bologna on 8 June 1846, d. there on 11 Aug. 1888.

In 1868 he went to study in Florence; then he was in Rome, whence he sent to Bologna paintings of a historical character. In 1871 he won a competition for the curtain of the "Teatro Gentile" in Fabriano. In 1875 he was in Venice, then again in Rome, where he painted in the apse of S. Maria della Vittoria a large fresco with the Triumphal Entry of the Catholics into Prague and several paintings, among them St. John Nepomuk for St. John Lateran, St. Bonaventure and the collaboration G. S., there 1935; G. De Logu, La scultura del '700, Florence n.d.
