DILGSKRON, KARL. - Redemptorist, b. in Vienna on 31 Aug. 1843, and d. there on 1 June 1912. He taught philosophy and theology at Mautern (Styria); from 1878 to 1883 he was a preacher in Vienna and Prague; from 1883 to 1909 he was general consultor of his Congregation and subsequently also of the Congregation of Indulgences and Relics in Rome, where he likewise became an esteemed preacher and confessor to the German colony.
An eminent authority on the history of his Congregation, he wrote the biographies of St. Alfonso Maria de' Liguori (2 vols., Ratisbon 1887), of St. Gerardo Maiella (ibid. 1879, 7th ed. 1923), of Fr. Giovanni Nepomuceno Neumann (ibid. 1891), of Fr. Giovanni Battista Eichelsbacher (Dülmen 1890), of Fr. Smetana (ibid. 1902), of Fr. Tendler (Vienna 1905), and of Fr. Federico von Held (ibid. 1909); the history of the Redemptorist church of S. Maria am Gestade in Vienna (ibid. 1882), as well as numerous other works on moral theology, law, and preaching.
