MAURO, SILVESTRO. - Philosopher and theologian, born at Spoleto on 31 Dec. 1619, died at Rome on 13 Jan. 1687. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1636 and taught humanistic letters and philosophy at the College of Macerata. Later, he taught philosophy, theology (1668-82), and Sacred Scripture (1684-85) at the Roman College, of which he was also rector for a period (24 Sept. 1684-2 Nov. 1687). He was responsible for commissioning the decoration of S. Pozzo (v.).
