International Union for the Protection of Public Morality (I.U.P.M.)

INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR THE PROTECTION OF PUBLIC MORALITY (I.U.P.M.). - A non-denominational and apolitical organization, which aims to coordinate the initiatives that have arisen in various countries to ensure respect for public morality and to fight against attacks on good morals; it arose in Paris on 27 May 1951, with the adherence of 90 organizations from various countries (today ca. 100).

The means of action of the U.I.M.P. are: 1) to unite and disseminate information on the laws, regulations and measures taken against offenses to public morality in the various countries; 2) to intervene with the United Nations, the specialized institutions and non-governmental organizations; 3) to study the factors that drive the public to seek out publications, performances and other manifestations contrary to good morals, and the means of remedying their harmful effects. It has its seat in Paris and is governed by a Bureau, made up of a president, a vice-president, a treasurer and a secretary-general, and by an international Comité, in which the following are represented: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, England, Italy, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United States of America, Switzerland. It acts in the various countries through Comitati d'intesa, which group together locally the various organizations adhering to the U.I.M.P.

In conformity with this Association, but on a national level, there exists in Italy, with its seat in Rome, erected as a moral entity, a national Association for good morals, founded in 1946 by prof. Carlo Costantini (1870-1952).
