1After these things, Moses and Aaron went in, and said to Pharao: Thus saith the Lord God of Israel: Let my people go, that they may sacrifice to me in the desert.Dopo di ciò andarono Mosè, e Aronne a dire a Faraone: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Lascia andare il mio popolo affinché mi offerisca sacrifizio nel deserto.AFTER these things Moyses and Aaron went in, and said to Pharao: This saith the Lord God of Israel: dismisse my people that they may sacrifice to me in the desert. 2But he answered: Who is the Lord, that I should hear his voice, and let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.Ma quegli rispose: Chi è il Signore, onde io debba udir la sua voce, e lasciar andare Israele? non so chi sia il Signore, e non lascerò andare Israele. But he answered: Who is the Lord, that I should heare his voice, and dismisse Israel? I know not the Lord, and Israel I wil not dismisse. 3And they said: The God of the Hebrews hath called us, to go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and to sacrifice to the Lord our God; lest a pestilence or the sword fall upon us.Disser quegli: Il Dio degli Ebrei ci ha chiamati, affinché andiamo tre giornate di strada nella solitudine a sacrificare al Signore Dio nostro, perché non venga sopra di noi la peste, o la spada. And they said: The God of the Hebrewes hath called vs, to goe three daies iourney into the wildernesse, and to sacrifice to the Lord our God: lest perhappes there chance to vs pestilence or sword.Dixeruntque: Deus Hebræorum vocavit nos, ut eamus viam trium dierum in solitudinem, et sacrificemus Domino Deo nostro: ne forte accidat nobis pestis aut gladius. 4The king of Egypt said to them: Why do you Moses and Aaron draw off the people from their works? Get you gone to your burdens. The king of Aegypt said to them: Why do you Moyses and Aaron solicite the people from their workes? Goe you to your burdens. 5And Pharao said: The people of the land are numerous; you see that the multitude is increased; how much more if you give them rest from their works?E disse Faraone: Il popolo è grande nel paese: vedete, come la moltitudine si è augumentata: quanto più se li lascerete respirare da' lavori. And Pharao said: The people of the land is much: you see that the multitude is secretly increased: how much more if you geue them rest from their workes?

6Therefore he commanded the same day the overseers of the works, and the task-masters of the people, saying:Allora adunque comandò a' soprastanti de' lavori, ed agli esattori del popolo, dicendo:Therefore he commanded in that day the ouerseers of the workes and the exactores of the people, saying:Præcepit ergo in die illo præfectis operum et exactoribus populi, dicens: 7You shall give straw no more to the people to make brick, as before; but let them go and gather straw. You shal no more geue straw to the people for to make brickes, as before: but let them selues goe and geather straw. 8And you shall lay upon them the task of bricks, which they did before; neither shall you diminish any thing thereof, for they are idle, and therefore they cry, saying: Let us go and sacrifice to our God.E imporrete loro la stessa quantità di mattoni di prima senza diminuzione alcuna: perocché hanno bel tempo, e per questo gridano, e dicono: Andiamo a sacrificare al nostro Dio.And the taske of brickes, which they did before, you shal put vpon them, neither shal you diminish any thing: for they are idle, and therfore they crie, saying: Let vs goe, and sacrifice to our God.Et mensuram laterum, quam prius faciebant, imponetis super eos, nec minuetis quidquam: vacant enim, et idcirco vociferantur, dicentes: Eamus, et sacrificemus Deo nostro. 9Let them be oppressed with works, and let them fulfil them; that they may not regard lying words. Let them be oppressed with workes, and let them accomplish them: that they hearken not to lying wordes. 10And the overseers of the works, and the taskmasters, went out and said to the people: Thus saith Pharao: I allow you no straw;Andarono adunque i soprastanti de' lavori, e gli esattori, e dissero al popolo: Faraone così dice: Io non do a voi le paglie:Therefore the ouerseers of the workes and the exactors going forth said vnto the people: Thus saith Pharao: I allow you no straw:Igitur egressi præfecti operum et exactores ad populum, dixerunt: Sic dicit Pharao: Non do vobis paleas: 11Go, and gather it where you can find it; neither shall any thing of your work be diminished.Andate a raccoglierne dove potete trovarne: e non si sbasserà nulla del vostro lavoro.goe, and geather if you can find any where: neither shal anie thing of your worke be diminished.ite, et colligite sicubi invenire poteritis, nec minuetur quidquam de opere vestro.

12And the people was scattered through all the land of Egypt to gather straw.E il popolo si disperse per tutta la terra d'Egitto a raccoglier le paglie. And the people was dispersed through al the Land of Aegypt to geather straw. 13And the overseers of the works pressed them, saying: Fulfil your work every day, as before ye were wont to do, when straw was given you.E i soprastanti de' lavori li pressavano, dicendo: Compite il vostro lavoro dì per dì, come solevate, quando vi si davan le paglie. And the ouerseers of the workes were instant, saying: Finish your worke euerie day, as before you were wont to doe when straw was geuen vnto you.Præfecti quoque operum instabant, dicentes: Complete opus vestrum quotidie, ut prius facere solebatis quando dabantur vobis paleæ. 14And they that were over the works of the children of Israel, were scourged by Pharao’s taskmasters, saying: Why have you not made up the task of bricks, both yesterday and to day, as before?E furono flagellati i maestri de' lavori de' figliuoli d'Israele dagli esattori di Faraone, i quali dicevano: Per qual motivo non avete compito ieri, e oggi la quantità dei mattoni secondo il solito? And the ouerseers of the workes of the children of Israel were scourged of Pharaos exactors, saying: Why do you not make vp the taske of brickes as before, neither yesterday, nor to day?Flagellatique sunt qui præerant operibus filiorum Israël, ab exactoribus Pharaonis, dicentibus: Quare non impletis mensuram laterum sicut prius, nec heri, nec hodie ? 15And the officers of the children of Israel came, and cried out to Pharao, saying: Why dealest thou so with thy servants?E i capi de' figliuoli di Israele andarono gridando a trovare Faraone, e dissero: Per qual motivo tratti male così i tuoi servi? And the ouerseers of the children of Israel came, and cried out to Pharao, saying: Why dealest thou so against thy seruantes?Veneruntque præpositi filiorum Israël, et vociferati sunt ad Pharaonem dicentes: Cur ita agis contra servos tuos ? 16Straw is not given us, and bricks are required of us as before; behold we, thy servants, are beaten with whips, and thy people is unjustly dealt withal. Straw is not geuen vs, and brickes are commanded vs in like sorte: behold we thy seruantes are beaten with whippes, and thy people is vniustly dealt withal.paleæ non dantur nobis, et lateres similiter imperantur: en famuli tui flagellis cædimur, et injuste agitur contra populum tuum.

17And he said: You are idle, and therefore you say: Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord. Who said: You are idle, and therefore you say: Let vs goe and sacrifice to our Lord. 18Go therefore and work: straw shall not be given you, and you shall deliver the accustomed number of bricks. Goe therfore, and worke: straw shal not be geuen you, and you shal geue vp the accustomed number of brickes. 19And the officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in evil case, because it was said to them: There shall not a whit be diminished of the bricks for every day.E i capi de' figliuoli di Israele si vedevano a mal partito, perocché dicevasi loro: Non si diminuirà nulla dei mattoni da farsi dì per dì.And the ouerseers of the children of Israel saw them selues in hard case, because it was said vnto them: There shal not a whitte be diminished of the brickes for euerie day. 20And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood over against them as they came out from Pharao:E usciti da Faraone si imbatterono in Mosè, e Aronne, i quali aspettavano colà presso. And they mette Moyses and Aaron, who stood ouer against them, coming forth from Pharao:Occurreruntque Moysi et Aaron, qui stabant ex adverso, egredientibus a Pharaone: 21And they said to them: The Lord see and judge, because you have, made our savour to stink before Pharao and his servants, and you have given him a sword, to kill us.E disser loro: Il Signore vegga, e giudichi; perocché voi ci avete messi in cattivo odore dinanzi a Faraone, e ai servi di lui, e gli avete posta in mano la spada, perché ci uccida.and they said to them: Our Lord see and iudge, because you haue made our sauour to stinke before Pharao and his seruantes, and you haue geuen him a sword, for to kil vs.et dixerunt ad eos: Videat Dominus et judicet, quoniam fœtere fecistis odorem nostrum coram Pharaone et servis ejus, et præbuistis ei gladium, ut occideret nos. 22And Moses returned to the Lord, and said: Lord, why hast thou afflicted this people? wherefore hast thou sent me?E si rivolse Mosè al Signore, e disse: Signore, per qual motivo hai tu afflitto questo popolo? Perché mi hai tu mandato? And Moyses returned to our Lord, and said: Lord why hast thou afflicted this people? wherfore hast thou sent me?Reversusque est Moyses ad Dominum, et ait: Domine, cur afflixisti populum istum ? quare misisti me ?

23For since the time that I went in to Pharao to speak in thy name, he hath afflicted thy people: and thou hast not delivered them. For since the time that I entered in to Pharao to speake in thy name, he hath afflicted thy people: and thou hast not deliuered them.ex eo enim quo ingressus sum ad Pharaonem ut loquerer in nomine tuo, afflixit populum tuum: et non liberasti eos.
