FORESTI, TEODORO DA BERGAMO. - Preacher and Capuchin theologian of the ancient province of Brescia-Bergamo, b. at Solto (Bergamo) on 15 Aug. 1565, d. at Bergamo in 1637.
A religious in 1581, he was definitor in his province and in that of Venice, training numerous disciples in sacred oratory; he defended the rights of the Holy See against the claims of the Venetian government, which exiled him in 1626. A lecturer in theology in the Studia of Verona, Venice and Padua (1601-1608) and in the general Studium of Milan (from 1613), he directed famous students toward the doctrine of St. Bonaventure, which he sought to interpret according to Thomistic principles. Elected definitor general in 1633, he published the De almae et S.mae Trinitatis mysterio in seraph. divium Bonaventurum... paraphrases (Rome 1633) with the appended Tractatus... de verbis et dictis et modis dicendi in hoc divino Trinitatis mysterio (ibid. n.d.), which he was unable to continue on other subjects. Urban VIII appointed him apostolic visitor.
