PIETRO di THURY. — Cardinal, born in Burgundy in the second half of the 14th century, died probably around 9 December 1410. Doctor in utroque. He was custodian of the church of Lyon and a referendary at the court of Carlo VI when he was appointed bishop of Maillezais on 2 May 1382.
Sent as legate to the court of France in January 1389, in his capacity as legate and counsellor he accompanied Luigi II d'Angiò to the Kingdom of Naples in July 1390. Having returned to Avignon in June 1392, he took part on 28 September 1394 in the election of Pietro di Luna (Benedetto XIII), but declared himself against him when the latter was deposed, in July 1398. He took part in the Council of Pisa in 1409. Alessandro V, elected at that Council, appointed him in November 1409 vicar general
and legate of Avignon and the Comtat Venaissin. His letters and memoirs, addressed especially to the court of France and the University of Paris, reveal the role he played in curbing the Western Schism.
