QUINZANI, STEFANA, blessed. — Born at Orzinuovi (Brescia) on 5 Feb. 1457; died at Soncino (Cremona) on 2 Jan. 1530.
She lived for many years at Crema, where, while still very young, she became a Dominican tertiary, vowing herself to perpetual virginity. She was endowed with singular supernatural gifts, including mystical phenomena such as the stigmata and frequent ecstasies of the Passion, attested by numerous witnesses. That of 16 June 1499 took place in the presence of the dukes of

Mantua, Gianfrancesco Gonzaga and Isabella d'Este. She was associated with this family and with other princely houses, and everywhere she brought the fragrance of her virginal grace. She was in contact with the blessed Matteo Carreri, with Saint Angela Merici, and with the blessed Osanna Andreasi, and was teacher and counsellor to persons of every condition. Having returned to Soncino, she founded a convent for women dedicated to Saint Paul and Saint Catherine, which Giulio II approved in 1512. Benedetto XIV, in 1740, confirmed her cult and title of blessed.
