QUINZANI, Stefana, Blessed. - B. at Orzinuovi (Brescia) on 5 Feb. 1457, d. at Soncino (Cremona) on 2 Jan. 1530.
She lived for many years at Crema, where, while still a young girl, she became a Dominicantertiary, vowing herself to perpetual virginity. She was endowed with singular supernatural gifts, with mystical phenomena, among them the stigmata and the frequent ecstasies of the Passion, documented by numerous witnesses. That of 16 June 1499 took place in the presence of the dukes of
Mantua, Gianfrancesco Gonzaga and Isabella d'Este. With this family and with other princely houses she had relations, and everywhere she brought the fragrance of her virginal grace. She was in contact with the bl. Matteo Carreri, with St. Angela Merici and the bl. Osanna Andreasi, and was a teacher and counsellor of persons of every condition. Having returned to Soncino, she founded a women's monastery dedicated to St. Paul and St. Catherine, which Julius II approved in 1512. Benedict XIV in 1740 confirmed its cult and the title of blessed.
