LAMPERTICO, FEDELE. - Economist and jurist, b. at Vicenza on 13 June 1833, d. there on 6 Apr. 1906. He taught at the University of Padua. He wrote a pamphlet on the Urgency of the Venetian question, which appeared in Turin, Paris, and London, arousing attention and interest, but drawing upon himself the suspicions of the Austrian authorities.
Deputy for Vicenza in the IX and X legislatures, he sat on the Right and opposed the anticlerical laws; he was senator from 1873. Proclaiming himself Catholic and liberal, he advocated, like his teacher Giacomo Zanella and his nephew Antonio Fogazzaro, a conservative party which, while leaving Rome to Italy, would work for reconciliation between the new State and the Holy See. He also wrote: Sulla statistica teorica in generale e su Melchiorre Gioia in particolare (Venice 1870–71); Economia dei popoli e degli Stati (5 vols., Milan 1874–84); L'Italia e la Chiesa (Florence 1890).
