LAMPERTICO, FEDELE. - Economist and jurist, b. at Vicenza on June 13, 1833, d. there on Apr. 6, 1906. He taught at the University of Padua. He wrote a pamphlet on the Urgency of the Venetian Question, which appeared in Turin, Paris and London, arousing attention and interest, but drew upon himself the suspicions of the Austrian authorities.
A deputy for Vicenza in the IX and X legislatures, he sat on the right and opposed the anti-clerical laws; he was a senator from 1873. Proclaiming himself a Catholic and a liberal, he advocated, like his teacher Giacomo Zanella and his nephew Antonio Fogazzaro, a conservative party that, while leaving Rome to Italy, would work for reconciliation between the new State and the Holy See. He also wrote: Sulla statistica teorica in generale e su Melchiorre Gioia in particolare (Venice 1870-71); Economia dei popoli e degli Stati (5 vols., Milan 1874-84); L'Italia e la Chiesa (Florence 1890).
