LAMPERTICO, FEDELE. – Economist and jurist, born in Vicenza on 13 June 1833, died there on 6 April 1906. He taught at the University of Padua. He wrote a pamphlet on *L’Urgenza della questione veneta* [The Urgency of the Venetian Question], published in Turin, Paris, and London, which drew attention and interest but also aroused the suspicions of the Austrian authorities.
Deputy for Vicenza in the 9th and 10th legislatures, he sat on the right and opposed anticlerical laws; he became a senator in 1873. Proclaiming himself a Catholic and a liberal, he advocated, like his teacher Giacomo Zanella and his nephew Antonio Fogazzaro, a conservative party that, while leaving Rome to Italy, would work for reconciliation between the new State and the Holy See. He also wrote: *Sulla statistica teorica in generale e su Melchiorre Gioia in particolare* [On Theoretical Statistics in General and on Melchiorre Gioia in Particular] (Venice 1870–71); *Economia dei popoli e degli Stati* [Economics of Peoples and States] (5 vols., Milan 1874–84); *L’Italia e la Chiesa* [Italy and the Church] (Florence 1890).
