**MATTIUSSI, Guido.** – Jesuit philosopher and theologian, b. at Vergnacco (Udine) on 14 Apr. 1852, d. at Gorizia on 12 Mar. 1925. Having earned degrees in theology, philosophy, and science in Paris, he served as professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University, lecturer, and writer.
A profound scholar of the doctrine of St. Thomas Aquinas, he drafted the celebrated 24 Theses approved by the Sacred Congregation of Seminaries and Universities and provided their finest commentary in *Le 24 tesi della filosofia di S. Tommaso* (Rome 1917). Other works include: *Fisica razionale* (2 vols., Milan 1896–1901), *De Verbo incarnato* (Rome 1914), *De Deo Uno et Trino* (ibid. 1913), and *De Sacramentis* (ibid. 1915). He also wrote against Kant’s immanentism in *Il veleno kantiano* (Monza 1907) and against Modernism in *Il giuramento antimodernista* (Bergamo 1909), as well as numerous articles and works of a philosophical, apologetic, and dogmatic nature, such as *L’Assunzione della B. V. nel dogma* (Milan 1924).
