MATTIUSSI, GUIDO. - Jesuit philosopher and theologian, b. at Vergnacco (Udine) on 14 Apr. 1852, d. at Gorizia on 12 March 1925. Having earned degrees in theology, philosophy and science in Paris, he was a professor at the Gregorian University, a lecturer and a writer.

A profound connoisseur of the doctrine of St. Thomas, he drafted the celebrated 24 theses approved by the Sacred Congregation of Seminaries and Universities and produced the best commentary on them, Le 24 tesi della filosofia di s. Tommaso (Rome 1917). His other works: Fisica razionale (2 vols., Milan 1896-1901), De Verbo incarnato (Rome 1914), De Deo Uno et Trino (ibid. 1913), De Sacramentis (ibid. 1915). He also wrote against Kant's immanentism: Il veleno kantiano (Monza 1907), against modernism: Il giuramento antimodernista (Bergamo 1909), and furthermore numerous articles and works of a philosophical, apologetic and dogmatic character, L'Assunzione della B. V. nel domma (Milan 1924).
