PUJATI, GIUSEPPE MARIA. - Jansenist, b. at Polcenigo on 3 Aug. 1733, d. at Venice on 5 Feb. 1824. Having entered the Somaschi at a young age, in 1748 he taught letters at the College of the Order in Brescia and theology at the Clementine College in Rome. As a follower of Augustinianism, he took part in the theological discussions of the time. In order to devote himself to the study of Sacred Scripture, the Fathers and ecclesiastical history, in which he was particularly versed, he became a Benedictine in 1772 at Montecassino.

Church (s. l. 1778); Esame di un articolo del signor de la Lande sopra i liberi muratori e di una nuova apologia sopra i medesimi (Venice 1787). These works, except one, managed to escape condemnation, but his intimate friendship with the Jansenists (e.g., Clément, De Ricci, Tamburini, De Vecchi) and the favor he gave to the ideas proper to that movement did not save him from the accusation of heresy, even though he intended to die in the most declared and lived faith.
